We hope the following information goes someway to answering your questions about the chiropractic care and the practice. However, please feel free to contact our clinic if you wish to discuss anything in more detail or if you have any other questions
I’m not sure if chiropractic can help with my condition, what should I do?
If you’re unsure if chiropractic treatment can help with your condition, you may wish to arrange a free, no-obligation discussion with our chiropractor. This may be over the phone or by dropping us a message. We will then be able to tell you if we can help.
If you decide to go ahead with treatment, the chiropractor will assess your condition during your first visit before explaining possible treatment recommendations.
You don’t have to agree to the treatment the chiropractor recommends then and there. Just let the chiropractor know if you would like more time before deciding.
What happens on my first visit?
When you attend your first consultation, which will typically last about 45-minutes, the chiropractor will take a detailed case history and carry out a physical examination. This will help the chiropractor determine what is wrong and a suitable course of treatment.
Before commencing with any treatment, the chiropractor will explain their recommended course of care, how it will improve your condition as well as any risks and possible side effects.
If the chiropractor does not believe that they can improve your condition or has concerns regarding other health conditions which you may have, they may refer you to another healthcare professional.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic treatment is safe when performed correctly by a trained and registered chiropractor. Millions of people utilise chiropractic care throughout the world every day and it has an exemplary safety record.
It is common to experience mild to moderate aches and pains, stiffness and tiredness. However, these side effects are usually mild and generally pass within a few days. More serious side effects are rare but have occasionally been reported following spine manipulation.
Does treatment require getting undressed?
In most cases there is no need to undress, but it is sometimes necessary to remove items of clothing during chiropractic treatment. If this is the case we will inform you before the start of care. If you are not comfortable undressing just let the chiropractor know before starting treatment.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. It’s fine for you to bring along a relative or friend if it makes you feel more at ease.
Will I be treated in a private room?
Yes, all appointments regardless of whether it is your initial consultation or a regular treatment will always be carried out in a private treatment room.
Will treatment hurt?
Treatment is usually painless unless an area is swollen. If this is the case, your chiropractor will alter the treatment that you receive. You may also hear a clicking or popping noise. This is perfectly normal and commonplace with chiropractic treatment.
Some patients also report temporary aches and pains during and after treatment. Again, this is nothing to worry about and is perfectly normal.
How are Chiropractors trained and qualified?
Chiropractors in the UK must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. A requirement of the GCC is that Chiropractors must undergo a recognised degree programme in order to be qualified. Our Chiropractor underwent a 5-year Masters degree in Chiropractic (M.Chiro) at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic. Chiropractors must also maintain their annual continued professional development to stay up to date with new research and techniques.
What is the difference between a Chiropractor, physiotherapist and an Osteopath?
Differences between these professions are more to do with historical philosophical differences. Nowadays, it’s more about the professional you choose rather than the profession. All three are trained to a very high standard an should always put your needs first every time.
Is the practice easy to get to?
